This is a great alternative recipe for people avoiding potatoes in their diet. The recipe is simple and can be improvised on to include any items you like - bacon, chives, cheese, butter, sour cream, etc. We did make this recipe as is. It was tasty and light. We would make it again and add butter.

8 cups chopped turnip, about 10-12 medium sized, peeled and diced (or as much as you want to make)
1/2 pound of bacon and save 2 Tablespoons of grease
2 Tablespoons butter, melted
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon onion powder
salt & pepper to taste
2 teaspoons chives or green onion
Dice and peel turnips and place in large pot of boiling water. Simmer for 30 minutes, uncovered or until tender. The longer they cook, the less bitter the turnip will be.
While the turnips are cooking, cook your bacon in a skillet until crispy. Drain but save 2 T. bacon grease. Crumb the bacon up
Once turnips are done cooking, drain well. Place turnips, bacon grease, butter, garlic, onion, salt pepper into mixer and beat to desired consistancy.
Hand mix in the bacon and top with chives to serve
